Nahargarh fort Rajasthan, India is the third monument among the series of Forts in Amer. This fort is the highest point of the city from where a breathtaking view of the Pink city thrills everyone. The beauty of the place is so refreshing that it remains fresh in the memory for a long time.
This is a famous spot for the locals and tourists alike. It is situated about few kilometers atop the Aravalli hills and it was primarily built as a rest-house for the Kings who came into the forest for game.
The abandoned architecture got its fame after Bollywood filmmaker Mr. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra shot the opening scene of his movie Rang De Basanti. The movie became a box-office hit and so the place.
Nahargarh Fort History
The fort was built in 1734 by the then Maharaja of Jaipur Sawai Jai Singh II. Nahargarh fort was mainly built to strengthen the defense of the city, owing to the height of the Aravali hills it gave a wide-angle view of the surrounding and thus helps in keeping a watch of approaching armies.
In those days, Nahargarh Fort along with Jaigarh and Amber Fort formed a formidable defense line up for the city. The story behind its name is interesting, while the original meaning goes as the adobe of tigers’ for which the forest was once famous and yet today it has been declared as a sanctuary by the State government.
The other story reads that it got the name after Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit is supposed to haunt the place and hindered the construction of the fort. A temple dedicated to the man has been constructed in the vicinity.

Nahargarh Fort Architecture
The architecture of the place is nothing different than the other two surrounding forts, the Jaigarh and the Amber fort and this could be largely connected because all of these monuments have been built during the reign of Maharaja Jai Singh II.
Like the other two forts, Nahargarh fort Jaipur is also inspired by the unique style of architecture which is a distinct combination of Rajput style and Mughal style of architecture.
The vicinity contains many prominent structures scattered around within a large campus. There is a pond situated on the peripheral by the longwall which runs throughout the city marking the boundary of the original old city.
It houses a museum where ancient manuscripts and paintings of the era have been stored a depicting the lifestyle of Kings in the Mughal era, the golden period of Indian history. There is a restaurant serving the Rajasthani cuisines.
How to Reach Nahargarh Fort
The Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur Rajasthan is just a few kilometers away from the city Railway station and Bus stand. It’s about 7 km from the city on the side of National Highway 8, connecting Jaipur to New Delhi.
Regular bus service, both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned Low Floor, plies on the route however there is no public transport available to the doorstep of the Fort but private transport is readily available throughout the day and night. Many local and international tour-operators regularly organize tour packages to the place.
