At least five people were shot on a subway in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Tuesday morning, authorities said, and a manhunt for a suspect was underway.

The FDNY responded to reports of smoke at the 36th Street train station in Brooklyn, where multiple people were found shot just before 8:30 a.m. local time.

According to a fire spokesperson, undetonated devices were also found at the scene.

But the NYPD stressed that there were no "active explosive devices" found.

According to a law enforcement source, the suspect used smoke devices during the shooting, and explosives were not used.

Police were said to be seeking a man with a gas mask and an orange construction vest.

Preliminary reports indicated that five people were shot, according to the Associated Press.

The FDNY said that 13 people were injured and taken to area hospitals.
